Our Story

There is more to Midwest farming than corn and soybeans.

Danndee Flowers started as a hobby in 2020 before becoming a business in 2021. Early one June morning in 2020, Kate and her father planted a sunflower patch using seed from a friend. She hoped simply to attract pollinators and feed the birds. The flowers were so beautiful and happy, she wondered if they would sell at the local farmer’s market. Her flowers sold out, and in ten days 600 sunflowers brightened homes all throughout our community.

And so, the adventure began…….

Kate is joined in the endeavor by her husband, Jason, owner and operator of Danner Excavating; along with her father, John, and mother, Carol, a Master Gardener whose main interest is growing lavender and other cut flowers. Kate farms 1600 acres of corn and full time, with her dad and husband on Longley Farms. In operation since 1902, it is full of family history, including a five generation legacy of flora around the farm house which include transplanted wildflowers, bridal wreath, lily-of-the-valley, hostas, peonies, irises, and maple trees. The first generation of Longleys bought 160 acres on which they built the farmhouse in 1902. Every generation that has taken over the farm has raised their family in that farmhouse, Kate is the fifth generation to make a home in the farmhouse.
In fact, the original 160 acres now houses the flower farm and store!

Apart from farming flowers, the Danndee Flowers sunflower farm is truly a labor of love; from designing and planting the corn maze, to woodworking, repurposing old farm equipment for the playground, and sourcing products for the store. Sunflowers, family, and community are our passion.

Now an agritourism destination, business and family have intertwined for decades on this farm, whether it’s flowers or bulk commodities like corn and soybeans. Everyone pitches in, contributes their skills, supports one another, and rejoices in this wonderful thing called family farming.

As we’ve grown…..

Beginning 2023, Kate and Carol have expanded their production line for the store. With over 70 products! Carol is retired dietitian and has a cottage license. Her love of lavender has developed a culinary collection. Lavender syrup is the top seller. Folks love it in their coffee, tea, and lemonade. All culinary items come with a original recipe for your to make at home. Kate has focused on the farm•acie collection with soy candles, bath n’ body oils, bath salts, sachets, dried flower arrangements, body butter, bath wash, sugar scrubs, and more! We really pride ourself on making our products simple. None of our products have over five ingredients and the ingredients are commonly known.
